How to remove your hair extensions (and why you really should)

Hi Everyone,

Hope you are staying safe and well during these strange times. I thought I would write this little blog to help you and give you some advice on how to remove your hair extensions and what is best to do with your hair.

We love hair extensions. We love how they make our clients look. We love how they make our clients feel. We love the way you are able to grow your natural hair down while you where them.

BUT…

This is the perfect time to give your hair a break from your extensions, especially if you have had them in for a few weeks already.

If your roots get long, it can cause tension on your hair because the weight can pull down. That can  do long term damage to your hair. So take our advice and remove them know and it’ll be in the best possible condition to have them reapplied when we re-open.

You can even keep your hair and once we’re back open you can send them in to be washed, conditioned, re-taped and reapplied.

Just keep them in a neat and tidy bundle and look out for instructions when we know more about when we can re-open.

mini rings hair extensionsHOW TO REMOVE YOUR MINI-TIP EXTENSIONS

When: 12 weeks maximum
How: You’ll need extensions pliers
Top Tip: It’s easy to do, but you may need a helping hand to support the roots while you remove them. Do not pull on the root.

tape extensionsHOW TO REMOVE YOUR TAPE EXTENSIONS

When: 8-10 weeks
How: Use tape remover
Top Tip: Spray tape remover between the tapes and they will unpeel. If you have any residue, use the tape remover to get rid of it. Don’t attempt to comb residue out.

LA weave extensionsHOW TO REMOVE YOUR LA WEAVE

When: 12 weeks maximum
How: Cut the string, then remove the micro-rings with pliers
Top Tip: When you cut the string the weft should come off in tact. Ask for help to hold the hair when you remove the rings to avoid pulling on the hair.

Once you have removed your hair extensions you’ll see a lot of excess sheded hair. Don’t be alarmed, this is just the hair that would have shred naturally, we usually look after it for you in the backwash.

Use a soft bristle hairbrush to remove this excess hair. After you have done so, wash and condition your hair and use a treatment.

Don’t forget to look after your hair so it can be re-fitted.

A BONUS JUST FOR YOU

We’ve got you a discount with our friends at Hair Choice Extensions. To get 10% off your pliers or tape remover just enter NMHS at the checkout.

ARRANGING YOUR RE-FIT

When we are ready to re-open, you’ll need to book in for an extensions re-fit. You can post or hand deliver the hair to us or hand deliver it (when we are open) for us to check it is in good enough condition to reapply.

If you are outside of your maintenance time you will have to have removed them during lockdown. You cannot have a maintenance appointment outside of the recommended maintenance time – this is for the benefit of you and your hair and our reputation.

Please be aware that if your hair is significantly matted when you do return to the salon, you will not be able to have them removed and replaced in a day. You may need 2 separate appointments, which will incur two appointment costs.

For more advice, get in touch on Instagram or Facebook or email your chosen salon.

We can’t wait to see you again to transform your lockdown hair ❤️

Love Neil
